Lixit Water Bottle
After months of convincing my friend Pete to water bottle train his parrot he relented. I recommended a Lixit water bottle, heavy glass and medium tube for his Sengal parrot. Pete’s bird Momo, had chronic drainage and irritation of the nares. Despite many trips to the avian veterinarian no suitable solution was found. I explained to him that droppings were likely the cause of his birds dilemma. Even the slightest amount of feces in a birds water bowl can fester into a bacterial cest pool. Even though Pete frequently cleaned the water bowl and changed the water several times a day his bird still was ill from environmental effects of it’s own waste. The fact that he had to clean the water bowl several times a day due to food and droppings getting into the water should have been a clue that the water bowl could be the problem. After several weeks of training, Momo is now healthy and his nares are no longer irritated.
