I Need to Figure out What to Do

I need to figure out what to do about the three and a half acres of land behind my employer’s facility here in Leeds. I do not know anything about japanese knotweed eradication, beyond the fact that it is very difficult to get rid of the stuff for very long and so I want to hire someone whom I can depend upon to do the job properly. My boss is a hard man and he will have a fit if I pay someone to come out and knock about without doing anything of lasting value. I have been wondering if there is some way you can put up a barrier to prevent it spreading from the public lands around the lot. Of course our chain link fence is of little deterrent to any creature that is determined and this stuff is absolutely relentless from all that I see and understand about it.

Proud of My Beautiful Flower Bed

This year I decided to grow flowers from seed. I wanted some beautiful flowers to look at from my garden gazebo while I sat there. I needed a project to work on and designed my flower bed, pored over seed catalogues and chose the flowers I liked best. I started back in February and planted sunflower seeds, zinnia seeds, gaillardia seeds and marigold seeds, excited to watch them grow and have a beautiful border of color all summer. I thoroughly enjoyed watching my seeds turn into little seedlings, then bigger seedlings and finally into beautiful flowering plants. It is now mid-July and my flower bed looks fantastic. My color scheme worked well and I have a great assortment of reds, yellows, pinks and oranges in my garden. My sunflowers are taller than me and I am constantly picking fresh flowers for my house. The flowers have also attracted lots of interesting birds and bugs which are fascinating to watch. My favorite is a pair of little goldfinches who come to feed on my sunflowers twice a day. I think next year I will plant even more…

I Am Proud of My Garden

Some people are very proud of their garden. And rightly so. Their gardens are so beautiful and they have definitely put in a lot of effort into it. I Love Plastic Sheds

The thing about plastic sheds is that you can’t really beat them! The price is good, the durability is good and the ease in which it is set up is second to none! I really like plastic sheds because they are no nonsense, low maintenance and just as functional as a wooden or metal shed. The only thing about a plastic shed is it resembles a kid’s play area a bit, but you can order ones that look more like a shed than a toy. I really like my plastic shed. I don’t have to special treat it against harsh weather, I don’t have to clean it hardly ever. This thing does not stain, water does it no harm, and it is just as likely to stay in the ground with hard winds as any other shed. All that and I spend about a thousand less than a traditional shed, perfection!

Time for Something New

I’ve always enjoyed gardening and taking care of my lawn. I probably the proudest guy on the street for having a beautiful yard. Front and back, I have grass, climbing roses, huge areas of different kinds of flowers and foliage. I’ve even got my plantings set up so that some are perennial, and some are seasonal so the yard never looks exactly the same way twice. Lately, though, I’ve been super busy so I’m going to need to find the best sprinkler for my yard. After the merger at my job, I just haven’t had the time to stand out in back with the rain attachment on the hose and water everything myself. It’s a shame, really, because that was so relaxing for me. My family liked it even better because I never asked them to do it. Well, at least if I find the right sprinkler, I know my yard will be watered and in good shape, waiting for me to have the time to work on it again.

How Long Have Termites Been On Earth?

One of the few oldest insect groups that have been around since the days of the dinosaurs are the termites. They are estimated to be more than a hundred million years old. This dates back to the Jurassic period, and makes them even older than ants. So it is likely ants copied their social structure, since both termites and ants are very similar in being eusocial insects.

Termites can often be seen preserved in amber and copal, making them among the most frequent preserved insect specimens. In some deserts, you can find fossilized remains of termite tubes and such, embedded in the dry desert rocks, indicating that termites were around when the desert was a lush and fertile place. So, there is no question that termites are very old creatures and it looks like they could also be around when we are gone. Maybe it’s time to learn a thing or two from mother nature.
