There are many RV sites that have great reviews so just Google “rv campsite reviews” and you’ll come up with a host of great websites. If you know people that have gone full time rving, ask them too. This is oftentimes the best insider information you can get to avoid the campgrounds that are real clunkers.
For example, I was totally saved by searching for reviews on a campground that we had booked in Wyoming. Pictures looked great, the Grand Tetons off in the distance with a gorgeous sunset; Yosemite just north and Jackson Hole just to the south, seemed the ideal spot. The cowboy who took my reservations was a doll as well. Then I just happened to do a Google review and I backed out faster than you can say “Old Faithful”. The reviews, which there were over twenty, described a rundown, dusty, downright dangerous campground complete with ungrounded electrical and a hot tub and pool without water.
The “pictures” that I saw on line were just graphics, not actual photos of the campground. Luckily I got a refund before we had any of the bad experiences that the folks online wrote about.
When you are living in a rv full time, you cannot do enough research ahead of time to make sure you don’t make these mistakes.
Now keep in mind that there is always that one (sometimes two) disgruntled guest that had a horrible experience and rambled on about it on line. This also happened to us in our stay in Illinois. The RV campsite had three reviews, one which was bad because they complained about the road that went into the RV campsite. After reading the review, we booked it any way.
As it turned out, the camp site was great, the road just a little narrow for our fifth wheel. No big deal.
So bottom line: get the general consensus on each campsite and use your best judgement.
